About Us

Hello there! My name’s Mike Metlay (“Dr. Mike”) and on behalf of myself and my trusty factotum Diana Smethurst, I’d like to welcome you to Atomic Words.

I’ve decided to go freelance after 23 years as an Editor of the respected US pro audio magazine RECORDING, where I oversaw editorial content and assisted in maintaining its relevance and strength in the face of economic uncertainty and the gradual shift toward digital content.

I handled writing, editing, proofing, and had primary responsibility for the magazine’s editorial connection to hundreds of audio gear and software firms, who relied on me to focus reader attention on their brands and new products, as well as coordinate reviews and fact checks, write industry news articles, and maintain communication throughout the review process.

Diana comes to Atomic Words with years of editorial experience, first as Editor-In-Chief of the British magazine Vision, then as Copy Editor at RECORDING. A Jill of all trades, she writes, proofreads, edits copy, and is also well-versed and practiced in graphic editing, website design and video editing.

With decades (literally) of experience in the New Age/ Paranormal worlds, her knowledge of the subject matter adds an extra dimension to editing work in these fields... because she understands the subject matter. She and I are the editing team for Danish publisher BJOOKS, whose Publisher relies on us for excellence in every title in the imprint.
